When it comes to yard work and landscaping there are a lot of different things that you can do. Depending on the size of the yard, the footprint and what is around you it may be difficult to come up with some great ideas.
Recently, I was driving around my neighborhood looking at houses and noticed that my neighbor was building a walkway to his front door. As I pulled up and talked to him, he told me that he had gotten some stone pavers on sale and was going to add a nice walkway. I was intrigued which made me want to do something cool for my house.
How to create a walkway with pavers
It would be easy to create your own walkway or patio with pavers made from stone. It is very inexpensive and a great way for you to save money on landscaping because it is something that you can do yourself.
Create your path
The first thing that you want to do is set your path. You can do this by driving stakes into the ground and run a string in a pattern of your walkway. This will be your guide to work from. Then, you want to remove all the grass and dirt from that area to create a space for your pavers.
Make a level grade
You next need to grade your path. What this basically means is that you will make the dirt even all the way throughout your walkway. This will ensure that all of your pavers are level.
Start laying your pavers
Once you have evened out the dirt, start to place your pavers. You may want to stake them down so that they will not move. This part doesn’t have to be perfect but get it as best you can. You will be able to level everything out once you start filling in the spaces with dirt.
When laying your pavers think of fun and unique patterns you can make. Look at the color of each stone and see how you can add some interest to your walkway.
Create an edging for your path
It is important that you create an edging for your walkway. Use either a brick or decorative rocks to encircle the entire walkway to make it look more finished. This will also create a border around the walkway so that the grass does not recede into your path which can cause tripping hazards.
Do some finishing touches
Now that your walkway looks good, you want to start doing some finishing touches. you can add some outdoor lighting, flowers or some bushes. You have a great foundation for your walkway, it is now time to emphasize it and make it the focal point to you yard.
